Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu recently returned from Delhi, where he accused the central government of showing discrimination toward his state. Speaking to the media in Shimla, Sukhu claimed that the state government was being treated unfairly, especially in comparison to BJP-ruled states.
The Chief Minister highlighted that, in the aftermath of the recent disaster, Himachal Pradesh had requested ₹10,000 crores in post-disaster relief under the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA), but the central government had not provided adequate support. Additionally, the state has been waiting for ₹9,000 crores in National Project Assistance (NPA) for a long period, but has yet to receive these funds.
Sukhu emphasized that these funds were essential for Himachal’s recovery and development, but the central government’s negligence was preventing the state from accessing its rightful share. “Himachal’s due rights are being withheld,” he said. The Chief Minister expressed his intention to meet with central ministers soon to address these issues and ensure the state receives the financial support it needs.
CM Sukhu to Represent Himachal in Key Finance Meeting
On December 20, 2024, a crucial meeting will take place in Jaisalmer with finance ministers from across the country. CM Sukhu confirmed that he, along with the state’s finance minister, would attend the meeting and advocate for Himachal’s financial interests, ensuring the state’s concerns are heard at the national level.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that although Himachal is a smaller state, its needs and rights must not be ignored. He stressed that the federal government should give special consideration to smaller states like Himachal, which often face challenges that larger states do not.
Congress Government to Celebrate Two Years in Power
In another significant development, CM Sukhu shared that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh will mark the completion of its two-year term on December 11, 2024. This event, which is set to be held in Shimla, will not be a celebration, Sukhu clarified, but rather a formal program to review the government’s achievements over the past two years. He dismissed any political interpretations of the event, stating that it would be a non-partisan gathering, with leaders from all political parties invited to participate.
Controversy Over ‘Tape’ Incident Involving Opposition Leaders
CM Sukhu was also asked about a recent controversy regarding an incident on an HRTC bus, where a debate involving Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders was allegedly played for passengers. Sukhu expressed confusion over the issue, stating he was unaware of the specifics and refused to comment on a statement by former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam, who had compared the political climate in Himachal Pradesh to the Emergency era.
