Sheikh Hasina Resignation: Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus Expresses Willingness to Lead Bangladesh’s Interim Government

On Tuesday, leaders of the Opposition in India’s Parliament, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, attended a meeting organized by the Indian government to discuss the situation in Bangladesh.

India’s External Affairs Minister, Mr. S. Jaishankar, led the meeting and gave an update on the situation.

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday due to increasing protests, and arrived at the Hindon Air Base near New Delhi with the help of military plane.

According to the Bangladeshi local newspaper Prothom Alo, protesters set fire to the Awami League’s office in Dhaka around 4 pm on Monday. They also burned Sheikh Hasina’s office at 3/A Dhanmondi in Dhaka. The protesters were seen cheering and chanting slogans out loud about Hasina’s resignation.

The protests in Bangladesh, mainly led by the students, It started with demands to end a quota system for government jobs but unfortunately grew into a larger movement against Hasina and her Awami League party. On Sunday, clashes in Dhaka resulted in at least unfortunate 95 deaths, including 14 police officers, and many more injuries, according to Prothom Alo.
